Sounds like Black string band tunes of the '20s. I guess the Islands were more isolated. I wish somebody would put up an early version from the '30s for comparison.

@Spetzer - "Delia" is a lot older than Blind Blake. His version may be the antecedent of cash, but the song goes back to 1905 or earlier.

I can't explain it, but I am absolutely in love with this song right now. Amazing.

Awesome! I own Blake's Buckbee banjo, he's probably strumming it in this recording! Thanks for this!

Listening to various versions of this from Blind Blake thru to the Beach Boys, it's interesting to see how the song has gradually developed in style.

They say the the popular tune DELIA's Gone is based somewhat around this thune...though only the chord progression seems to be the same.
Delia was recorded by JOHNNY CASH (he did 2 different versions)
and
Acker Bilk (he did 2 versions as well)
Just some cool info I found out.
Either way...they are all great tunes!

Thanks for sharing.
No, Alphonso 'Blind Blake' wrote the song Delia's Gone ... and it is that song Cash has covered.
