In this 4.5 hour beast of a tutorial, artist Brad Rigney (Cryptcrawler) takes a rough thumbnail idea and carries it all the way through to it's beautiful and highly polished finish.

The demonstration begins with Brad talking about his initial idea and then painting in the background. It then shifts gears with a separate mini-tutorial where he clearly demonstrates the specific techniques which he uses throughout the rest of the tutorial. During the rest of the video Brad openly shares his process while adding a healthy dose of wisdom, common sense, and humor. Topics covered include composition, lighting, mood, texture, character design, and more.

Brad tells the viewer that he's looking forward to seeing what people do with his techniques, and we at ConceptArt.Org are looking forward to the results. Happy painting.

  • @KiCreativeStudio no one said it was easy, or that hard work wasnt involved. when he says just start drawing, he means, start it now rather than later..

  • Any ideas how he does the art history brush tick for keeping tight outlines?

  • amazing art...what's the dpi on a piece like this...my computer chugs when I go bigger then 10'' x 10'' at 300dpi so Im forced to draw a smaller pic then I want to...

  • Just want to notice this tutorial is on Discount only $7.99 from normal price $60. Go get it!

  • great work and I love the nuggets of wisdom in there but if this distracting (shit imo) music is on the download I ain't buying :(

  • @Painrinya oh i see! thanks a lot for telling me!

  • @lucaddragon It's his sketching for study. If you see full video in the beginning he show up 2 sketching done before actual record this real painting (video you see here). I guess you must confusing just like me because the sketching on the right is so much detail... but it's just his sketch not the final piece.

  • What i don't understand is how come he has another window of the finished painting? Doesn't the dvd cover the painting from beginning to end?

    Thanks.

  • I have to dovetail on what he said.

It's not as simple as "just start drawin' "

It's hard work. Seriously. Fun work but hard work. You have to study, a LOT and most of all you have to "think" about what you're doing. And even then it's still not easy.

But it is very doable if you constantly learn and constantly apply.

  • This guy is on some futuristic crack shit !... skillz are so insane
