The date was January 12th, 1963. The Professional Bowlers Tour staged a national tournament at the Celebrity Lanes, a center in Denver, Colorado. It features two well known combatants Andy Marzich and J.B. Solomon. Unfortunately Andy passed away on May 18th, 2010 due to cancer. He was 74 years of age. Andy was a multi-title winner on the pro tour and inducted into the PBA hall of fame back in 1990. I would like to send my condolences to Andy's family. Part 1 of 2

  • I had to think for a minute whose voice that was on color. Then it hit me. I know that voice. It's Don Carter doing color commentary, alongside play-by-play man Chris Schenkel. I had completely forgotten that back in those early days, whenever Welu either made the telecast or took the week off, Don Carter was the guy they had fill in (like Dick Weber would usually fill in for Bo Burton in the '70s and early '80s). Very, very cool that you found this.

  • Marzich was one of my favorite strokers back in the 60s, along with Carter, Hardwick, and Joe Joseph. I based my own approach on Andy's. Too bad there are so many power crankers today. No fun to watch.

  • This was when bowling had believable scores. Nowadays, you can shoot 300 blindfolded.

  • Bowling was tough back then; wood lanes with hooking heads and rubber bowling balls.

  • I actually bowled with JB back in the 70's in the Red River doulbes in Wichita Falls Texas. Great bowler and friend

  • "As you see on the sparemaker" Great technology back in 63 but a freakin nighmare if you first could find a center that still has them and had to work on them today....

  • Another good upload from way back. Thanks.

  • I miss Schenkel so much, but it's great to have these old telecasts to remember him by. Thank you for posting this :D
