I feel about family terms pretty much how I feel about pronouns- They're way too gendered for me and in an ideal world they wouldn't imply gender at all. That being said I'd probably prefer more masculine terms, but not at the exspense of way too much family drama.
i'd be happy if my sibs called me their half sister-half brother.

Ah family. I love them though. One of our subscribers is looking into non gendered terms for family- They're into linguisitcs. Should be interesting.

I am decreeing thusly:
Your niece and nephew shall call you Ribbit-san.
Your parents shall call you their kid Dylan.
Your brother shall call you his sibling Dylan.
And it shall be so.

I think I have a very similar stance on this subject as you. Wish that the terms weren't gendered. I also think the way your family deals with stuff sounds so much like my family!!

It's nice to see your face.
I think it's funny that your mom doesn't write your name on the letters. I remember when I used to send you mail and I wouldn't write "Dylan" on the front (Mannard or just Waller) cause you hadn't told your family yet. Funny that your mom is doing that now.
At least it's a step though.
