This interview is en francais. I don't know every word and I can't seem to get the gist of this interview. Can someone who knows French a lot better than I do, translate a bit? Thanks

  • Qui sont les deux hommes dans cette entrevue ? Je pense que c'à l'interviewer est centre serveur du programme TV5 L'Info.

L'autre question que j'ai est -- parlent-ils de TV5 Québec Canada, mais ce qui exactement ?

  • Where`s their precious little "antennae" broadcasting now ? Sure you can squeeze a whole lotta innanet "bandwidth" from from your TV antennae. Them "Continentals" are light years behind us Canadians.

  • "France doesn't need cable because the entire territory is covered by over-the-air TV." - Kin

Right, which turned out to be total BS!!! Quebec was pushing for an up to date, more American model to media broadcast (cable) whereas those continental French "connards" were still relying on 100 year old over the air broadcasting technology. No wonder they`re still playing catch-up to our media

    infrastructure. :D

  • Salut gang!

  • The real asnwer is that the French weren't then, and aren't now, interested in our quebecois shows, and quite rightly so. In terms of entertainment value and intellectual content, our shows are embarassingly bad when compared with those from France. I can only enjoy them in an ironic way, in the same way that I enjoyed Garbage Hill (the retrospective of Winnipeg Cable Access TV currated by Daniel Barrow back in 2005).

  • The journalist is wondering why TV5 is not more widely distributed in France (Quebec shows would air on their TV5, just as European shows were broadcast on our TV5), alluding to the low penetration rate of cable TV in France when compared to Canada. The director is patiently explaining to him that the point of TV5 is to promote French culture where it is not immediately available, and also that France doesn't need cable because the entire territory is covered by over-the-air TV.

  • To answer your question:

The chap with glasses was the Parisian director of TV5, in Montreal for the international TV5 board meeting. The board is comprised of French, Belgian and Swiss public broadcasters, as well as the Canadian consortium of public and private broadcasters (see the 1987 promo clip, also in this playlist, for more on the consortium). The other one is a Canadian journalist.
