In this lesson, I show you how to use the INDIRECT Function in Excel to create a unique set of values in a 2nd drop-down list based on your selection from another drop-down list.

The keys to success in this lesson - Use Data Valadition, Create Named Cell Ranges.

The INDIRECT Function will look to a "reference text" value in the 1st drop-down list. In this case, the references are the Names for the "Named Cell Ranges" to be used to trigger the 2nd list.

    Hello Sumi -

To the best of my knowledge, I never received the Excel workbook that @BamaDomination referred to.

I have not been able to "create a scenario" that returns the error message "Source Currently Evaluates to an error."

    I suspect thatpossibly:

    1) The NAMED Range has been deleted

    2) Error in creating a Named Range (Usied an invalid character, etc.)

    3) Error in creating Data Validation - did not use the Custom - Formula or kept reference as Absolute.

    Email me.

    Hello Sumi -

Yes, as you see, NAMED Ranges in Excel::

    1) MUST begin with a Letter or an Underscore

    2) Cannot contain ANY Spaces

I was able to figure out, though I named the list Market A excel had named the list as Market_A. So the error was due to the difference in name...

Thanks Danny , this video was great!!!

  • Hi Danny, I was wondering what could be the issue that BamaDomination was facing since i get the same error. Kindly request you to post the solution.

    Best Regards,

    Sumi

Hello! That is an "odd message" to receive. Please email me directly - you can find my email address by searching for The Company Rocks - and I will take a look at your data and your formulas.

  • I'm doing the exact same thing that is listed in this video, however I'm getting an error. "The source currently evaluates to an error. Do you want to continue?"
