Historically, Madhubala's character was the emperor (Akbar's) concubine - they were already having sexual relations. She was said to have been buried alive in a wall for merely casting a smiling glance at the prince Salim. A little bit of father-son dominance tension - very typical of any royal family of the Mughal era and beyond.
