The Artist starring Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo is reviewed by Christy Lemire (AP critic and host of Ebert Priesents at the Movies, check your local PBS listings), Matt Atchity (Editor-in-chief Rottentomatoes.com), Ben Mankiewicz (host of Turner Classic Movies), and Alonso Duralde (TheWrap.com and Linoleum Knife podcast).

Outside a movie premiere, enthusiastic fan Peppy Miller literally bumps into the swashbuckling hero of the silent film, George Valentin. The star reacts graciously and Peppy plants a kiss on his cheek as they are surrounded by photographers. The headlines demand: "Who's That Girl?" and Peppy is inspired to audition for a dancing bit-part at the studio. However as Peppy slowly rises through the industry, the introduction of talking-pictures turns Valentin's world upside-down.

  • There is no way this movie is that good to where a 6.7 rating is causing pandemonium....

  • That guy on the left sounds like Jimmy Kimmel.

  • I'm sorry but this is review is just bullshit.

  • wow a 6.7 ranting managed to win 5 oscars! how come? I guess those people know more than oscar judges!

  • It's amazing how these four can talk about "The Artist" without uttering one word about the music. This film has one of the finest scores I've ever heard.

  • @MysteryBounty: sorry to break the news to you but it does matter. Look up the correlation of between films having a high RT rating and their probability of being a nominee AND winning the BP.

If you're disappointed that comic book movies aren't nominated but that's the way it is.

  • @cvill03 I love dealing with bitches

  • saw all films nominated for an oscar & enjoyed them all, excpet tree of life, but there was something special about the Artist. Everyone but Ben has their head up their ass. I think theyre pissed that everyone liked it because they feel silent films are supposed to be reserved for film buffs like themselves. they discredit the film along with people who like it so they can feel superior. I wanted to punch that bearded hipster in the face when he said berenice was poorly cast. She was fantastic!

  • As the guys recommend, watch Citizen Kane (which this film steals a lot from), and watch Keaton/Chaplin. You guys been sold.
