windy weather isn't the only thing impacting travel between new mexico and arizona tonight... arizona's new immigration law has one new mexico city cutting all ties with that state. stuart dyson is here with today's developments. gallup's city manager has informed arizona's governor that the city will not conduct any official business with arizona - including attending any meetings or seminars - because of the controversial new law. the arizona law requires police to demand i-d if they suspect a person is in the country illegally - and detain the person for immigration agents if they don't have proper documents - supporters say it's essential to help stop border violence and the drug trade - opponents say it's unconstitutional. the gallup move was welcome news as political leaders and community organizers met on south broadway in albuquerque to slam the arizona law. " the officer has to do a 'discernment' - and that measuring stick adds up to 3 things - culture - language - or color - and that's discrimination - it's obvious." new mexico opponents argue the arizona law will lead to racial profiling - targeting hispanics. " i don't carry my papers with me - the griegos came over a few hundred years ago to this part of the world - i don't carry a passport - i usually carry my drivers license - but i wonder if i was driving in tucson or phoenix?" many wonder if a new mexico license would work in arizona anyway - since illegal immigrants are allowed to get licenses in our state. supporters of the arizona law argue that its requirement for "reasonable suspicion" means it would apply to all races and nationalities - not just people who appear to be hispanic - back to you. late this afternoon new mexico senator jeff bingaman announced he's asked the u-s attorney general to look into the arizona law on behalf of new mexicans. senator bingaman specifically asked attorney general eric holder to decide if new mexico driver's licenses count as proof of citizenship. new mexico and three other states don't require residents to prove their legal status to get licenses

  • Dear Gallup, New Mexico,

Thank you for boycotting Arizona, because you have just sent a message to thousands of illegals that Gallup, New Mexico welcomes them with open arms. You help in solving Arizona's illegal immigration crisis by your actions. Hey, if I was an illegal, New Mexico would be the first place I'd go.

  • New Mexico gives drivers licenses to illegals? hahahaha we should put a fence around New Mexico and drop the New.

  • These morons do not speak for the average person in Gallup.

Most people in Gallup would kick illegals out of the country ASAP

This is just another shining example of liberal schmucks acting as if they speak for the people of their community.

As for the Catholic priest (or what ever) he just wants little boys to molest that cannot go to the police and file charges!

  • @ma7799 lol you're funny. NM was actually one of

the first state in the US to come out of recession :-)

  • Gallup, how I loathe thee.

  • @Ramshobraja they get checked as they get off of the planes and boats, who do you think your fooling? people are not stupid enough to believe the crap your peddling LOL

and if they break the law they are deported with no questions asked, the only reason you do not know this is because they take what they have coming without being whiny babies about it.

  • you notice that the ones complaining are mexican

  • I will boycott Gallup and Im a native New Mexican, I hate that dirty drunk poor town

  • Damn The City of Gallup was succesfully sued a few years back for not hiring (1) native american for years despite being surrounded by native american reservations. The city of gallup only hired illegal mexicans and hispanics.

  • How can I get anti-American socialist to leave my alone.

  • Go ahead! Boycott Arizona and watch the illegals flock to New Mexico and put them in bankruptcy.

  • Every Arizona bigot needs to wear a bright yellow elephant's ass sewn on his or her ass the moment they leave Arizona and enter the United States of America
