Almost lifelong friends, the members of Flight of Mavis recorded two critically adored albums, in 1989 and 1991, before going their separate ways. Hewing closely to the Jangle Pop sound of R.E.M., Let's Active and Guadalcanal Diary, the suburban Philadelphia band still sounds as good today as back in the day.

Here are a couple of my favorites from their self-titled debut, We Believe In You and On My Mind.

  • Best band ever from Phila. They should have been huge. They became Buzz Zeemer, but the early stuff is the best....

  • Mavis at Trenton State College.....1990....great music, great band!

  • Thanks for posting this. Reminds me of working down the shore in my teens.

  • loved Mavis. Saw them at Trenton State College on the Huggies Tour (my first live band)
