PLEASE READ THIS - This dance sequence is from "King Richard and the Crusaders" (1954). The dancer in this segment is the wonderful Nejla Ates, who was born in Turkey in 1933 and became a highly trained belly dancer. She also appeared in "Son of Sinbad", and her performance in that film can be seen in Fifties Cheesecake Dance No. 5.

The film was directed by David Butler, and starred Rex Harrison as Saladin; Virginia Mayo as Lady Edith Plantagenet; George Sanders as King Richard I; Laurence Harvey as Sir Kenneth of the Leopard; Robert Douglas as Sir Giles Amaury; and Michael Pate as Conrad, Marquis of Montferrat.

I am always looking for new ideas for this series. If you have any suggestions please don't hesitate to drop me a line.

  • Good Performance!

  • Ms. Ates makes all the fake belly dancers in the other films look exceedingly lame.

  • The costume is very similar to the one she wore in "Son of Sinbad". Both have pink skirts with silver bedlahs and a bandeau style bra, but hey, it works.
