  • well, how religious IS bacon anyway

  • sampling in music is like using colors in painting. Colors are not yours but if you are using them you make them your own. same goes to samples.

  • @punktiirkoolon I don't really know which side I am on. On one side I worked my ass off on a song and up pops someone to rip my song to pieces so they can get rich, or known, based on my coat tails. On the other side we have the freedom of expression where it is considered an honour to have something you did used in something else.

I think I am in camp one more than camp two but in a perfect world, where there is no money to be made for anything and art rules it all, I would be in camp two.

  • Ok, what about a more direct question with examples of the here and now. Sample artists like Kanye West and Timbaland, Do you have an opinion about their musical intent? Is it just copying or art?

  • everything that consists composition is a form of art.

  • @punktiirkoolon

Dont get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with that. But im just saying that making something your own is more honorable.

  • @Kokodelmus

Who ducking cares is it already made or not. if result is good then who gives a duck

was it original, brainwashed by religion or used by aliens

  • @punktiirkoolon

Hmm. Sampling in music is like using already created objects like trees done by someone else. Well this is my opnion.

  • @punktiirkoolon

Using notes when writing music is like using colors when painting.

  • It's like a painter who paints by numbers maybe, tones are the colors but not someone else's work. It's cheap and unimaginative with very few exceptions. Write your own bass lines, hooks and melodies, otherwise your an inferior copy of other man's genius.

  • @audibleobsession

i think it depends how it is used. you can find many bad things but also you can find many good results. i dont want to argue. you have your opinion i have mine :)

  • @punktiirkoolon I think you're a little bit confused here. I wasn't fighting against sampling? Software synths aren't all samples...most synth VSTs run complicated DSP algorithms to create the exact same process as a digital or analog hardware synth. Therefore, very much NOT sampling. Furthermore, "Sampling" when we're discussing controversy is traditionally reserved for using pieces that are longer than, say, a drum hit. We're talking about a few chords, or a drum beat...
