  • when you start the obedience training on them that early does it mess with there protection training. i heard it like messes with there drive or something along those lines. im getting my first puppy to train for schutzhund soon hope its as good as yours :)

  • No. This is motivational training. She is wanting to offer the behaviors, and I reward them. If she doesn't do the correct behavior she isn't rewarded. I don't correct her to MAKE her do what I want. Using compulsion on a young dog can affect protection training, as they can become too handler sensitive, and are afraid of getting corrections and making a mistake, where as she is trying and making decision herself on what works and what doesn't to reward herself.

  • what is a clicker?is that the e-collar?

  • No, it's a reward marker. Google "Clicker Training" for more info.

  • @nicolebodea I'm very interested in this too and would love to hear from the uploader about whether she uses clicker training with the whole of Schutzhund training. I'm hoping to compete in Schutzhund in the future and am very curious to know what your opinions are about using positive reinforcement without corrections with things like bitework training.

  • Is it true that most Schutzhund trainers don't train with positive reinforcement but with force? And also, can you use the clicker throughout the whole Schutzhund training like for example, if they get the sleeve correctly and you click they can run off the field with their "prey" as a reward after you click?

Great dog and I am glad you are a positive reinforcement trainer!

  • you have very nice timing, and such a happy puppy! good job! : D

  • Interesting how you position the pouch behind you, rather than in front like most people do. I bet you don't get "crabbing" (where the dog partially walks sideways) and forging while heeling! I've got to try it!

  • Wow, what a smart puppy! How old is Eva? She is coming along great!
