Aleutian geese are on their annual winter/spring trek from the Central Valley via the Pacific Flyway -- think of it as I-5 for birds -- to their nesting grounds in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. They stop for a few months in Northern California and Southern Oregon to feed on grasses rich with protein, and huge numbers spend their nights in Myrtletown and the fields along Humboldt Bay.

  • Jose. Your video is awesome. And your pictures in the Times Standard lately have been awesome too, of Eureka and the birds. Nice work!

  • Cool. I had no idea what cackling geese sounded like.
