unfortunately powers that be can abuse the use of soldiers. if one perceives a soldier as "dumb, stupid animals to be used as pawns", are civilians considered dumb, stupid animals watching it happen or dumb, stupid animals that would be defenseless if invaded by foreign powers? the u.s. has used military might to become a major power in the world, and though it may one day fall apart as an empire, the soldiers made it possible. regardless of my thoughts on war, i never put down the soldiers.
