@hotbabeluky13 youre half right, it's more based on a relationship not religion. But it's not just having faith in a higher power, its believing in what God did, in what his son Jesus did, and living by their example.

Well, the song is crhistian in some way, proven by him adressing his lord at 1:20 and through the whole verse. Now if the song is about beliveing is where the discussion is. I personally take the song telling me that if i look at the proofs i can see the sun shine, that there is good in this world, even though it isnt that obvious.

it's all about optimism, your outlook on life

you could see a shadow simply as a thing that makes everything darker.

or, as John Foreman sings so beautifully' ,something that 'proves the sunshine'
