I had occasion to be in Ireland on business in early September and took a bus up to Belfast, the main city of Northern Ireland. Besides being a focal point of the Irish Troubles, Belfast is home to many fascinating murals painted by both Loyalist (extremist Protestants) and Republicans (pro-IRA Catholics). In recent years as the Troubles have wound down, they have become a major tourist attraction.
I used my Canon EOS 7D SLR with a Sigma 8-16mm ultra-wide angle lens and a Canon L-series 24-105mm short zoom.
I developed the pictures in Adobe Lightroom 3.0 and Photoshop Elements 7.0 (using Topaz Adjust 4.0 to enhance some of them). I also used Photomatix Professional to generate a handful of high dynamic range images as well.
I stitched together this presentation with Photodex's "Proshow Gold" and incorporated some text slides as well so people can better understand some of the symbols and concepts that are present in the murals.
The songs are "The Sash My Father Wore," a song beloved of the ultra-Protestant Orange Order, "Come out you black and tans," a traditional IRA ballad, and "Dirty Old Town."
great music, thanx!
