This is the REAL story of how Microsoft became the #1 operating system. It was more or less because MS made the right BUSINESS decisions at the right times with the right people, instead of innovation & being original while making great products.

  • anyone else find it creepily awkward that the host is shown laying on the Microsoft sign?

  • MS didn't get the idea of Windows from Apple, it came from Xerox. To say it came from Apple is FALSE.

  • @rockindoodcm They were talking about Floating Point Basic - programming language and not operating system. Apple ][ had it's OS in the ROM along with Integer Basic (both were written by the hardware designer Steve Wozniak on paper). Later, they developed their own DOS in the Disk II system called DOS 3.1. All OS's were written by Apple. The Floating Point Basic was essentially an application for writing programs in Basic much like Word was an application for the Mac.

  • @ribaldi It happened before Microsoft Office existed. It was in the 80's when there was a problem with Apple's software so Steve bought code from Microsoft. Watch the interview of Bill and Steve.

  • @rockindoodcm The only SW from Microsoft that ran on the original Mac was Word and Excel. Apple had never shipped Macs with Microsoft's OS. Why would they when Apple developed the OS themselves?

  • @ribaldi Yes they did. The original Macs ran Microsoft software.

  • @rfsent5 It's one thing to sell and market. It's another to follow up with a successful eco-system and continually to affect whole industries.

  • iOS is better...

  • @rockindoodcm Microsoft never made OS for Apple. But Microsoft has been developing sw for Apple's OS since the Apple ][ days.

  • @sweetgreggo, true, going a step further, the only thing noted from Xerox was a simple XY positional pointer concept where you hover over an "object" and if it's within the bounding box, it's selected. If you think about it, it's not really enough to be considered an entire OS. However leave it to apple fans to desperately propagate and exaggerate this point in order to validate their beliefs. Note how apple exaggerates points in order to sell, while both companies use the idea

  • Lisa is Siri's mom.
