As always, just on time: Fox Hound's finest, special agent Solid Snake, arrives on target. Ready to sneak into the base of Zanzibar Land, the fortified rogue nation that kidnapped Oilix inventor Kio Marv and has raided and stolen decommissioned nuclear weapons.
Quite a mouthful. Note that this is the a fan-translated version of the original MSX game, not the version that shipped with Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. There are just a few minor differences between both versions. For instance, the character portraits. I'll get back to that later.
Hideo Kojima used so many ingredients from this game for his classic Metal Gear Solid, a decade later, that some consider MGS as a wild remake of MG2:SS. I intend to point out the obvious as well as those less obvious ingredients during this walkthrough.
To start with that: notice that compared to Metal Gear 1, this game now has a much more detailed Codec screen? With little portraits that talk. Snake now talks as well. Kojima kept that detail and improved on it in MGS.
Also, Snake can crawl, uses a radar (which gets some explanation similar to MGS) finds rations and has to sneak into air ducts to enter the base. Notice how one can find a handgun and rations early in the game; in MGS, the Socom handgun is hidden in one of the first trucks one encounters at the base's entrance.
Enemies now patrol multiple screens (instead of one, as in Metal Gear 1), have an arc-shaped field of vision, turn their head and are alarmed by strange noises.
Important items:
- a Ration, in the truck in the east
- a Handgun with 30 bullets, in another truck east of the main door
- Ammo, in the west of the air ducts

There is absolutely no way Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 aren't part of the series: they're the very foundation!

@MisterBankz Seriously? Bitchin'! At that point, the only one I'll actually be missing is Metal Gear Solid 1! I haven't seen it in the stores anywhere though... I better just keep lookin'.

@Celdrach the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for PS3 & 360, it came out last month in America (if you're in Europe I think it comes out in like February). It comes with MGS2, MGS3 (which also includes Metal Gear 1 & Metal Gear 2) and MGS Peace Walker.

@MisterBankz Really now? Well then, I'm gonna hafta look into that~ what's the collection called?
Celdrach 1 month ago
@Celdrach if anything MG1 & MG2 are the easiest to get now since they were released with that HD collection.

@Waiting4thaWroms not at all.. i'm with you on this. nothing frustrates me more than when "fans" of the series disregard Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 either claiming they aren't part of the series, or that they refuse to play because of the graphics. Both games were fantastic and i think a remake is in order.

@S0ryiu Oh yeah, I remember hearing about that.
I think I better just stick to getting Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2 and Metal Gear Solid 1.
