In this chapter you will see how San Diego prosecutors don't have to supply accurate transcriptions to the defense and the court. A few years ago it was reported in the Union Tribune that DDA Peter Longanbach of San Diego was caught having his secretary "shuffle defendant's interviews to confuse the defense and aid prosecution." In the Cheri Dale case when investigator Mike Okins and Cheri's brother Fred Caldwell tried to follow the videotape of Cheri's 6-11-92 interview with the transcript, they kept wondering WHY they kept gettting lost. The whole time believing it was their fault. But a year after Cheri's conviction, Fred discovered WHY the tape did not match. 34 pages had been shuffled within the interview, then (Bates) numbered as though they were in order.
But that's just the half of it. Whenever a MISTRANSCRIPTION happens on a transcript, it usually completely changes the meaning of the context. There are over 50 mistranscriptions that have been logged in the Cheri Dale case but just a few highlights were chosen for Youtube. You'll get the drift.
