I was asked to create a sort-of Public Service Announcement regarding to the growing trend of cyber bullying.

Cyber Bullying has gained national attention in the case of Phoebe Prince, an irish immigrant attending South Hadley High School in Massachusetts. Though this case has shed new light on the issues of cyber bullying, there are many cases of what has been dubbed "bullycide" where students bullied both on and off line have taken their lives. Regardless of where the bullying is taking place, it is still an issue that must be dealt with on every level in order to prevent further tragedies.

Also mentioned in this video: Ryan Halligan, Megan Meier, Phoebe Prince, Jared High, April Himes, Brandon Swartwood, Corinne Wilson, Jeffery Johnston, Kristina Calco, and Matthew Epling.

Bullying is no longer about the strong picking on the weak in the schoolyard. The physical assault has been replaced by a 24 hour per day, seven days a week online bashing. Savvy students are using Instant Messaging, e-mails, chat rooms and websites they create to humiliate a peer. No longer can parents count on seeing the tell-tale physical signs of bullying—a black eye, bloody lip, torn clothes. But the damage done by cyber bullies is no less real, and can be infinitely more painful.

Cyber Bullying Statistics
42% of kids have been bullied while online. 1 in 4 have had it happen more than once.
35% of kids have been threatened online. Nearly 1 in 5 have had it happen more than once.
21% of kids have received mean or threatening e-mail or other messages.
58% of kids admit someone has said mean or hurtful things to them online. More than 4 out of 10 say it has happened more than once.
53% of kids admit having said something mean or hurtful to another person online. More than 1 in 3 have done it more than once.
58% have not told their parents or an adult about something mean or hurtful that happened to them online.
Based on i-SAFE survey of 1,500 students grades 4-8
Cyber Bullying Tips
Tell a trusted adult about the bullying, and keep telling until the adult takes action.
Dont open or read messages by cyber bullies.
Tell your school if it is school related. Schools have a bullying solution in place.
Dont erase the messages—they may be needed to take action.
Protect yourself—never agree to meet with the person or with anyone you meet online.
If bullied through chat or instant messaging, the bully can often be blocked.
If you are threatened with harm, inform the local police.

  • Josh, you recently came to my school. I only have one thing to say: Thank You. You blew my mind and you were really passionate about what you were speaking out about. Thanks to you, now I know about things that I had no idea about before i walked through the door of that auditorium. Thank you so much and keep doing what you believe in. You've inspired me and so many more people who's hearts you've touched and who's brains you filled with knowledge.Thank you so much. :)

  • what is the song called?

  • What a touching message. I feel so sad for those kids and their families. Nice job on the PSA. I appreciate you and all that you do, Josh!

  • She will be missed god bless her. I hope the bullies are brought to justice!

  • I cant think of a better use of a song I wrote than this.

Thank you for allowing my music to help alert people to the dangers of what can happen when we turn our heads and hearts away from those who need us most!

  • I get cyber bullied all of the time, especially here on Youtube for sharing my opinions. I try to not let it get to me, but sometimes it really hurts to know there are people out there that don't even know me, yet they hate me... Thank you so much for this, along with your other videos. You will save lives.
