Gran Tursimo 5 A-Spec denies much needed pit stop.

I have kept away from endurance races for the mere fact I am unable to complete them in one sitting. So unless I am not in the know, why does the game allow a pit stop when it feels like it rather than giving it to me when i need/want it like in B-Spec? I needed new tires and fuel.

I then am forced to be in red on the fuel gauge and I was still denied a pit stop! WTF?!?!
