WILMINGTON, North Carolina Oct. 10, 2010 - UNCW vs VCU: UNCW opened the scoring at the 18:22 mark of the first half as sophomore forward Stephanie Rose converted a penalty kick opportunity that was created when Holmes was taken down in the box. Sophomore midfielder Amanda Holmes scored in the 78th minute to break a 1-all tie and lead UNCW to a 2-1 victory over Virginia Commonwealth in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer action Friday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium. The Seahawks retained a share of second place in the league standings as they improved to 4-1 in conference play and 7-6 overall. The Rams saw their winless streak extended to six games as they moved to 0-4-1 in league play and 4-6-3 on the season. Holmes struck for her second game-winning goal in three contests and her fourth goal of the season as she took a feed from sophomore midfielder Kim Currie and raced down the right side before firing a shot from 18 yards out that found the upper right-hand corner of the net.
