  • You can only guess at the ferocity from pictures if you've never experienced it. I went through a cyclone aboard a US Navy vessel. Thirty year later I hove to in 50 knots sustained with 30' breaking seas aboard a 10M sailboat around lat 58N in the Pacific - the howling alone is unforgettable. As for people perishing, as sad as it is, it does happen and we all know it. Living on the edge is part of the allure and if the outcome were certain, it would be a Disney ride, not an adventure.

  • never easy to photograph waves....great pics here, i am happy i was not outside in this weather (:

  • never seen that much wind noise in still pictures...

  • @riddyzarzoff . You have It right , GO JESSICA WATSON!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Picture at 1:21 is from the book Left For Dead by Nick Ward and Sinead O'brien.

  • I suggest you watch "Critical Situation Hell on High Water Parts 1 to 5" and find out what you are looking for.

  • @bonnietroon You haven't got a single fucking clue have you? People died in this race, it was one of the worst disasters the sailing world has seen. The pictures are of bad quality because it's extremely difficult to take good photo's when you're in a helicopter that the pilot is struggling to keep airborn and the air is filled with rain and spray. Show some respect.

  • i saw it!
