John T. Stirrup (R) is the incumbent Gainesville Supervisor on the Prince William County Board of Supervisors, challenged by Corey Riley (D). Stirrup is known for having introduced the controversial anti-illegal immigration resolution which was funded for implementation on October 16th, 2007. The election on Tuesday Nov. 6th, 2007 has been touted by Stirrup's Chairman Corey Stewart as a "referendum on immigration." Riley is running his campaign on reuniting and involving the community in the civic process. The debate was filmed by Jeff Man on October 10th.
stirrup seems laid back. hides behind stewart's skirts most of the time. except when he lost his composure and cried to daddy stewart about "point of order, point of order, point of order" whining like a bratty kid saying "i'm gonna go tell mom." in the riley gainesville vid stirrup goes nuts because the guy next to him is "not recognized to speak."

In your "more information" part, you state Riley will involve the community. Please tell me you have done some back ground reporting instead of just listening to a few people. Are you aware, Supervisor Stirrup is the only elected official in Prince William County who holds Quarterly Town Hall Meetings? He also sends an e-newsletter to over 7,000 PWC citizens. Please be fair in your reporting!!! This election is not a referendom on immigration! When did Supervisor Stirrup say that?

Illegal immigration is a problem in PW County. Stirrup has gained name recognition outside the community because of the nomenclature used to describe the resolution: The Stirrup Resolution. He has been fairly laid back during this entire process.

While Stirrup states that he is moving Gainesville towards "world class community status", he is moving it backward. The immigration resolution he irresponsibly initiated is giving PWC a national blackeye. The lawsuit against the county was filed in part by the powerhouse law firm of Howrey LLP, which will make kindling out of the county. County funds are going to be further drained as a result. In FY 2008, PWC is expected to have a 10M shortfall in revenue. Stirrup is in over his head.
