  • There just words, its truly the Racist Asshole who uses them.

  • @macross25 Yeah, I agree too. I could say the N word because I wanted to know what it meant or where it came from and I'd not be meaning it to be bad, although it is generally interepreted as that even if the person didn't know. Words can indeed be hurtful. They are the very thing we use to communicate, and thus can be used to communicate nice things or mean things. The history thing is a very good point too.

  • @Doc5232 That's very true. But still it's usually short, sharp words with harsh sounds that get deemed as swear words. There may be a reason for that, that it just sounded dirty so they classed them as swears or something? Who knows? It seems a little like the chicken and the egg scenario to me. Was it the negative connotations that were assigned first, or did they first get used in a derogatory way?

    It's interesting stuff.

  • @davorunner Here's the thing, swear words have that effect because certain humans at one point decided they were swear words. The reason they affect the brain is because of the negative connotation that are attached to them. If someone uses the word "fuck" for instance but doesn't know the negative connotation and are never told about them then their brain sees it as just another word.

  • @c0mbineelite Actually there was no video, it was a picture and some audio. George Carlin is a comedian, not an expert in the way these things affect the brain. Swear words use a whole different part of the brain than 'normal' words. Words have meaning, and swear words have 'normal' meanings but have offensive connotations. It's nothing to do with being afraid, it's simply about showing respect. Although I don't expect you to understand by your responses.

  • @davorunner Did you even watch the damn video? They're just words.

Stop being afraid of a fuckin word, it's not gonna come out of the screen and attack you.

  • @c0mbineelite An adult? OHH you mean a jerk, or someone who doesn't realise what they are saying, which happens to be most people these days, including you as it would seem.

  • @davorunner Why did you type N word. Type nigger like an adult would.

  • @davorunner I completely agree, The N word is a true & harsh word. But Carlin's point was that simply saying a word is just that, a word, a group of letters comprised together. Imagine teaching a history class about the Deep south (1800's-1960's) or the Vietnam war.... you'd be sugar coating the actual events by not including the dialog used by people of that period however harsh it may be. Still words can be very hurtful.

  • @macross25 You're only half right. Words carry a lot of meaning. Some words have "normal" meanings, and offensive meanings, these words don't like the N word, there isn't a pleasant or 'normal' meaning for it. It was always meant, used and created just to be offensive.

  • Absolutely! But he forgot spic, flip, jap, tiger, redneck?, towel head, dot head, spook, cracker, guido, and PR.
