@stealthblade47 You can't get a KO with that much padding just like you can't get a KO in a Kendo match. And the reason it looks so different from Kendo or Escrima is simply because the strikes are chambered differently.

is this like point sparring or something? they seem to be moving in a very flowy manner somewhat dissimilar to what i would've expected for what i thought was similar to that of an eskrima match or a bokken spar

the flourish movement serves a couple of purposes. one, the continual movement is disturbing to your opponent and hides when your actually going to strike. it helps to lull your opponent. two, the constant circular movement creates a lot of whipping power when you strike much like a tres buchet; it also creates a defensive screen against your opponents strikes.
