  • It's not just you. Albeniz is an amazing pianist, especially when Esteban Sanchez plays, but it's true, I have to admit it, he sounds really very very spanish. That's why many people don't like his music. I would even say that without the flamenco guitarists, like John Williams, playing his Asturias, Albéniz would have been today completely unknown. Like Charles Valentin Alkan, unknown, but great. If you like piano music of the 19th century I recommend you to listen to this french pianist.

  • @Sarma230 lol John Williams is not a flamenco guitarrist at all

  • i am learning the whole sonata for my recital in may. it's a great piece. very charming!

  • Is it just me or is Albeniz's music unfairly neglected by most pianists? This is good. I'm not a pianist but I am a tertiary music student and I suspect that there's a little bit of snobbery going on...ie "Oh, we don't play that nationalistic Spanish; it's too unintellectual." Shame.
