While in Rovaniemi, Lapland, Finland Amanda and I went on a Reindeer Safari (see table of contents below). This entailed preparing and harnessing the reindeer, and taking a long ride into the forest to a wooden hut and campfire for some traditional Finnish tea or coffee. This ride took us into the Arctic Circle.
0:13 Harnessing the reindeer
0:36 Touching/petting the reindeer
0:52 Shaking itchy reindeer
1:09 Attaching the sleigh
1:39 ready to go, but the leader makes trouble
2:03 Biiki comes up from behind
2:27 The second sleigh takes the lead
2:36 Blackleaf pees/urinates
2:51 Biiki almost hits us with his antlers
3:12 Moving smoothly through the forest
3:17 Learning about reindeer husbandry in the hut with a campfire
Our "safari" was provided by Eräsetti Wild North, who provides this description:
"Transfer by car to a Reindeer Park at the Arctic Circle. There the guide will tell about reindeer husbandry and show how to harness the reindeer. During an enjoyable ride through the snowy forest, we stop at a campfire for a cup of traditional Finnish coffee with cookies. You will have an opportunity to drive the sledge on your own and receive a Reindeer Drivers Licence. On return to the Park, we unharness and feed the reindeer. You will also receive a booklet about reindeer husbandry in Finnish Lapland. Transfer back to town by car."
I Live on there :)
