  • @everagej am one of the nigerians who is even ready to be accomodating about the lack of distinct yoruba culture in the production because i believe it will lead those who have never heard of fela to look for original recordings and some might be willing to look at the culture he came from to open their eyes further .. i do know many nigerians who were very DISMISSIVE of this production because it didnt reflect fela or our culture, but the LONDON PRODUCTION was not like that it had a

Furthermore, many African-Americans have not totally lost an African-centered point of view. There is a distinctive African-American culture that is not totally White American and it is not totally African. Many of us are fully acculturated and many of us are not! I am not fully acculturated and, therefore, would never support a show that disrespects the memory of FELA by excluding his culture and nation! Major disrespect. Let's be careful about mass stereotyping.

  • @SuperQueenofAfrica

First of All, those Black Americans are predominately of African decent. Hence the name African-Americans. You sound as if Black American's ancestors do not come from Africa!. Now, I would agree there should have been Nigerians in the show and the point that they did not do that is an insult to FELA! and Nigerians. However, FELA! spoke on the oppression of not just Africans on the continent but it relates to African Americans b/c we all feel the HEAT!

  • clueless idiots no african country is going to war on your behalf and the sooner you get that into your heads the better for you ..

  • @amkua2520 who is a "yoruban" at least if you want to start insulting our cultures you could at least take the time to get the spelling right otherwise its juST LAZY politicking on behalf a bunch of random AFRO CENTRIC.. thanks BUT NO THANKS you do not speak for us .

  • You guys are making a mockery of all that every PanAfricanist stood for, including Fela. You are localizing, thus minimizing, a huge problem -- the survival and consciousness of the ENTIRE African race. It is obvious that you are proud of your Yoruban heritage, but you are, or should realize that you are, MUCH more. As I said before and will never say again, open your eyes, the world is a very big place with many things transpiring negatively affecting the entire African CONTINENT and PEOPLE.

  • PERFORMANCES AND SEE THE DIFFERENCE.. its like chalk and cheese and that is why i will not hate on this production , it ENCOURAGES CURIOSITY AND EXPLORATION .. those who DENY THE ORIGINAL ARE FOOLING THEMSELVES.. and quite frankly it goes to show that to them, its all about a bunch of "fine bruthas with no shirt on " rather than what FELA ANIKULAPO KUTI stood for . by the way HIS MOTHER WAS A NIGERIAN ACTIVIST and had nothing to do with america .. go figure

  • and those who want to know about the real fela and to know and get to know who he was need to watch the ginger baker documentary not just drool over some man in a shirt with locks ! that has NOTHING TO DO WITH FELA THE MAN . what utter nonsense.. foolishness ... go and watch the documentary GET TO KNOW THE REAL FELA SEE HIM SPEAK FOR HIMSELF .. its not a bunch of americans dancing energetically around its african movement M.O.P.. ITS A LOT MORE THAN MASS ENTERTAINMENT go and watch the ORIGINAL

  • had nigerians in it and i understand it was a completely different vibe.. when americans tell our stories they basically tell those stories from a non african angle the way a nigerian might put on a show about an american black hero but do it with an african slant ..its the same thing .

  • this is a great show but it is not a nigerian production and because no yoruba are involved in it the FEEL isnt going to be nigerian .. that is an observation one that these people cant understand because they will tell his tale from their point of view and only from their persepective because that is the ONLY PERSPECTIVE THEY KNOW or care about .. its not their fault this is four hundred yrs of detachment from their origins . however we do know the difference here the london production
