  • i am visually challenged. did u machine quilt the top then add the back and batting? i want to learn how to hand quilt also but i have no clue what happens before you put it on the hoop. can you show me those steps?

  • @eastsaintlouis62203 There is no machine quilting prior to doing the hand quilting. You lay out the backing flat on a floor or table, then spread the batting on top of that and the top of the quilt on top of that and pin them all together with LOTS of safety pins. Then you put it in the hoop and quilt. If you search on the internet for "sandwiching a quilt" you should find lots of instructions for this!

  • I've looked and looked for a hand quilting video that shows all elements of hand stitch. You hit the mark marvelously. Thank you for saying the products you use! I too love Roxannes needles. I was wondering what kind of hoop you recomend? Do you like a free hoop or one on a lap stand? And, what diameter hoop do you use? Thank you very much!!!

  • @mawoolston I have a wooden hoop that is about 12" across. It's more like a square with rounded edges than a circle and it says "Quilter's Resource" on the side. I remember it was maybe $45 (pretty expensive!), but it's super sturdy. I also sometimes quilt small projects without a hoop at all. I have never used a quilting frame or a hoop on a stand.

  • I am just learning to hand quilt. Thank you for your video. I am wondering where I could obtain the pattern you are working on. Again thank you.

  • You're welcome! The block pattern is a variation on the basic Drunkard's Path. If you search for that on the web you will come up with all kinds of stuff and templates you can buy or make.

  • Found various sources for Drunkard's Path. Now am looking for a GOOD source for a GOOD wooden hoop. I can't find any well made hoops locally - very flimsy and don't want the heavy plastic quilters hoop. Again seeking advice from you on where to find a good hoop. Tried the internet with diffculty. Thanks again. Have looked in quilters magazines also. What am I missing?
