Ivan Petroff (1899-1963), not to be confused with the basso Ivan Petrov, is a rather new discovery to me. I find the timbre and power of his voice absolutely amazing. Here he sings a fantastic Rigoletto. This is from a complete recording from 1951. He was very nice and supportive to my dad when he came to his first Amonasro in the 1950's.

  • omg! he's adorable! i loved him!!!

  • Ivan Petroff could probably out sing most of the baritones working today. If his style was not entirrely Italiante, then neither were Lawrence Tibbett or Robert Merrill, strictly speaking. I'd willingly accept the difference for this level of vocal quality.

  • Sublime Petroff Grazie!

  • It happened that today everyone wants to sing, no matter if they have got the gift and talent for that or not. And everyone thinks he is the best. :)

The true talents of the lyric art are simply ignored or killed.

  • Not a very italian way of singing thi particuliar aria, despite a great voice1

  • @josemuso1 Hilde Reggiani? Not Hilde Gueden rather?

  • Indeed a great discovery! One for the list. Thanks for introducing
