Starting my TRX250R for the first time following a lengthy and drama filled rebuild. Still learning video quality, so bear with me.
I finally got my engine together and in the quad since I cracked the cylinder last fall. I thought a tear down would be quick and easy, but was soon proven wrong. Things that didn't go right include a supplier telling me that my crank shaft was not serviceable and that a replacement that another supplier I had needed to be re-stroked, so I bought a new OEM crank (screw Wiseco Hot Rods!). Then I discovered a gear with chipped teeth, then discovered where the chip came from ( transmission washer). Then got the power valve cylinder only to find the dome pitted and the liner flaked. Put the motor together and lost a piston clip into the bottom end, prompting me re-splitting the cases to make sure it was safe. Then the head stud pulled out when I was putting it all together. Good thing I had my dirt bike to ride during all this, otherwise I'd be going nuts.
Now for the break-in. I just know something else is going to go horribly wrong Keep your fingers crossed!
What's with that tank lol.

@2Girls1Tom Hare scrambles are an hour and a half long. Keeps me from having to make a fuel stop.

I hate forward kickstarts, love 250r's.
I have rebuilt many 2t's and they always smoke like crazy after a fresh rebuild but maybe that's because I soak a rag in cheap 2t oil and wipe everything down to get a thin film before I assemble it.
Not sure what kind of race oil you are running but I would be freaking out if my fresh rebuild wasn't smoking.

@Spywell Amzoil Dominator. But thats it, I dont soak everything down. Using my finger I put a film on the small end, wrist pin, cylinder bore and piston, and run some extra on the rings for reassembly, then pour some around the big end bearing, thrust washers, and down the holes for the main bearings. It's just how I do it, and I've never gotten a lot of smoke out of it. The way I look at it is after the first few revs it's getting lubricated by the oil in the fuel and the excess is washed away

@rustyATV Amsoil isn't a smokey oil, I have also heard that you should break in a cylinder using a cheaper oil because amsoil and klotz R50 or Techniplate protect so much that it's hard to get a good break in. I usually break my quads in with Yamalube R2 then switch to a Klotz oil, especially for the dunes on a 63hp 2t. Just stay away from the gummy cheaper castor 2t oils.

@Spywell Amzoil will smoke plenty when used in excess or when overly rich. It will also ooze a lot when rich, too, as I've found while slowly getting the YZ250 dialed in. There are countless variations on wearing in motors, this one works fine for me, others may prefer something different.
