They really do use controllers like that for UAS. Not for all of them, but the basic smaller ones do. I am applying to be a UAS operator after university, so I know my facts.

Xbox 360 controller is used because... well its an American product. The army tends to like having their stuff American made, which explains a lack of interest in purchasing foreign small firearms (aside from budgeting anyways).
