Archaeology And The Bible (excerpt)

If you're looking for hard evidence for the biblical stories, the archaeologists have it - or more accurately, they don't have it. This video features Anne, a real working archaeologist who explains what archaeologists do and how they do it and what they find. And they find very little of significance to support the Bible stories. King David existed, but he was only a two-bit chieftain, and the Exodus did not happen, and Joshua did not level the walls of Jericho. As for early Christianity, it was far from being a community united in one belief and spread by love, as the Bible claims. Fantastic to see a real open minded and thoroughly informed archaeologist telling it how it is..or how it was, to be accurate. Dont know how many times I've seen some doco that digs up and old farm stable somewhere near Bethlehem and claim that its the proof of Jesus' birth place which is so ridiculous its beyond words.

We still do NOT know if David existed, that Mernptah stela that claims to have his name listed as a conquered territory may be forged. The owl and vulture were the two birds in Egyptian glyphs, and if one has been forged into the other, then it is a COMPLETELY FORGED artifact and would then NOT say "David" because one bird represents different letters than the other !! There are serious scholars and PHD's at work on this right now, maybe the Bible thumpers can join in sometime ! ;)

I was expecting this to be full of the usual incorrect assertions that archaeology has demonstrated specific events occurred in the specific manner that they appear in the Bible.

Finally, a good honest vid that shows that we cannot really prove much of it as Archaeology is far too low resolution a discipline to even try to do that.

What it does do is give us a great resource to work with the bible to understand the cultural contexts within which Biblical stories existed and evolved.

I have the joy of knowing Christ through his Words. All souls are his. If it was God's will to use her to so be it. God used a whore(rehab) in the old testament to allow Israel to conquer jericho. Him using the Catholic "church" will be quit biblical.
