About a banana treat! Please note that Hazel is on a healthy diet of unlimited Timothy hay plus the proper rations of Oxbow Timothy pellets and fresh veggies. He only receives fruit as an occasional treat :) Hazel is also a well-trained house-bunny, so he free roams the house approximately 12 hours a day with supervision. Check out Hazel's epic new vid here!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fevOZ9b-jQ

  • He looks like a little doll! I have a mini rex too, he's about 2 years old now. He's my first too, and although he can be a little menace, he is currently cuddling with his head resting on my laptop, watching your bun eat bananas (he's jealous, he ate all of his veggies for the day) I was wondering if you fixed your rabbit? I fixed Stewie, and I was wondering how rabbits act if they are not fixed. Thanks :)

  • @ScalyBastard Aw, thanks!! I bet Stewie is a cutie too! :) I did get Hazel fixed when he was 7 months old, when he started nipping & (you know...) 'humping'. I believe rabbits are more aggressive when they aren't fixed, & I'm sure it's not comfortable for them either! Hazel stopped 'acting out' after I got him fixed. Unfixed females are actually more prone to Cancer as well. Everything I've read says that fixing is best for the health, happiness & personality of the pet :)

  • @TimothyPinecone Thats what I heard too. I fixed stewie at about four months I believe, so he's never humped a thing in his life. lol... Anyway, hope Hazel is doing well! Stewie just got over a bout of GI stasis, so its great to see some happy and excited buns around!

  • @ScalyBastard Thanks! :) If it's helpful, Hazel actually used to have a lot of GI stasis troubles, & my vet suggested I may be feeding him too many veggies. I cut back on his veggies (increasing his hay & slightly increasing his timothy pellets) & it helped a lot-- he's had very few stomach problems since then. Just thought I'd mention it since Hazel used to have GI problems. I think the rexes are prone to stasis ;)

  • What song is that playing in the background? :o

By the way, your mini rex is gorgeous. (: My copper & white colored little Penny is a mini rex too!

  • @MsGracieCatherine Thanks! Hazel is my first rabbit, but I already love the mini rex breed!

The song ('Flash and Gramps') is by composer Danny Elfman. It's from the soundtrack of an underground movie he scored in 1982 called "Forbidden Zone". The song is also credited to the band The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo (or just Oingo Boingo), which Elfman was leading at the time. The film was directed by Danny's brother Richard Elfman :)

  • lol I wasn't expecting that music!

  • @TimothyPinecone Hmm I didn't know that. Stupid thing ate half of a clemantine last night, so he's not feeling so hot. They aren't too smart, are they?

  • @TimothyPinecone Hmmm I did not know that! I knew that rexes are prone to sore hocks (mine has a terrible case) but thats really good to know. Thanks!

  • We raise rabbits and have never had trouble with our mini rexs have GI problems or stasis or cancer or aggression. I've never even heard of rabbits being fixed.
