I understand your point and the example.
However, fighter jets use fly by wire systems that are required to fly aircraft (as they are not stable designs). Fighter jets. They use redundant computer systems and are obviously rigorously checked for faults. However, the fact remains that the machines that are subjected to the most stress of any (after the space shuttle, rockets, etc.) use computers, are 100% dependent on them, and wars can still be won, no problem.

I agree, too much electronics are being put into vehicle drive train. I dont mind TVs, Navigation system, etc etc.
I dont want a car that has a computer(that can crash) controlling braking, acceleration, or steering.
Lightweight is the way to go. The Lotus eliese has 120hp and has a 0-60 on par with a corvette and gets MUCH better gas mileage.
Couldn't she have just thrown the car in neutral or turned off the engine to stop the acceleration?

@MrDustandechoes she tried to put it in neutral and nothing happened.
She couldnt have turned the car off because the ignition is electronic

The only advantage to drive by wire is that it makes it easier to design stuff like cruise control
