Andrew Smith : New Works

Artguise Gallery is proud to present the debut of new works by Ottawa artist Andrew Smith. Andrew's large scale oil abstracts are produced in a palette of deep earth tones, rich deep blacks and high contrast bright colour on vast fields of both light and dark. Andrew's work uses scale as a means to relate the interplay of mood, technique and energy within these massive painted surfaces. His focus in each piece lies in a deliberate ordered composition which extends outward, allowing the viewer to become engaged with an almost primal presence. This body of work connects his audience with the rigorous manner in which his abstract paintings are both conceived and constructed. Andrew's movement as a painter is evidenced in the texture on the surface, the fluid application of colour and the contrast of tonality. It is the amalgam of these elements that lend themselves perfectly to Andrew's ordered yet abstracted vision.
