At Buduburam Refugee Camp, Accra, Ghana

This is the camp, where I met Lulu's Mom and Brother (Shedrick, he's in the red jersey) and some of their long time neighbors. Everyone was very nice to me. It was very hot, so just being in that heat was hard on me. Can you tell by the way I act? This was, however, a very good experience. After so long of hearing about the camp on the phone, I finally got to see it in real life. The roads in the camp area are all dirt, and have some big potholes. In the last few years, they got electricity, but it's not on 24 hours. They have to walk to a central place to get water. The houses are very small and made from mud brick, and painted green. Malaria is a very big concern there because there is no sewer system. It was an amazing experience being there, and I wish I could go again some day.

@chriss179 Sounds like your laws are very different from ours. We have to use an attorney to help us with the visa application process, or this country will just keep putting the case on hold for one technicality after another. They also discourage us from marrying abroad. It's easier to get her here as a fiance than as if we married over there. And, the fees have quadrupled, making it nearly impossible for the middle class to bring someone here.

@hwalton211 And i think it's worth thinking about it early on in the game what to do about those inhumane laws. Like if she came from the US she doesn't need to speak one word dutch, now she comes from afrika she has to speak dutch better then the queen of the netherlands. But they've erected these laws to discourage people from marrying abroad and only the ones who'd do anything to be together will eventually be together.. So it's going to be a bumpy ride for us! May he return soon!

@hwalton211 Well i have the luck that a brother of mine already went to that whole process. of marrying a woman from abroad (peru). And for my country (netherlands) theres a great website with all kinds of tips on that. Because they're really harsh. Like even if you are married, she has to assimilate if not from a rich nation, or she can't stay. There are different routes to take tho to circumvent these rules. Like live in another european nation which does honor family reunion.

@hwalton211 Wow i'm in love with a girl there too. Both christian. Planning on going februari 2012. This really makes me happy to hear that you all found a lover who is also a child of the lord (just like me) and it's working out great!

Yes, we are still together. But I haven't been able to file for her. My advice is to go, if you can afford the trip. You will need a yellow fever vaccine and yellow vaccine book (available at local county health dept) as well as a VISA in your passport. The real question is, do you trust him with your life? If so, go, and stay in a hotel (try the Evita hotel-it's not too expensive and you can pay in Ghana Cedis). Go during the day to visit the camp. Taxis are cheap there, esp those with no A/C.
