Original song by Postcards Of Life. The clock starts ticking from the first breath of our fleeting lives... and when will the sands run out? Only time can tell.

You go to work each day, watch tv when you're home
Go out on the town a night or two
Pick a paperback, 'cos it hurts to be alone
When the dream that you dreamed simply isn't coming true.
Chorus: And time passes by the breeze, that blows through your hair and is gone Time is one thing you can't see, it slips through our fingers and with it life goes on.

You're always drifting back, to the days that are now long gone
But the past is just a straw you're clinging to
So you reach for a magazine, find the star-sign page and read
What the planets are predicting the future's bringing you.
Chorus:
Sometimes after work, you stop off at Dairy Queen
Buy the kids a treat it'll make their day
And sometimes it just seems, your life is as routine
As the latest ice cream stains on the seats of your Chevrolet.
Chorus:

  • I find this rather melancholy, maybe because I am middle-aged and see the old now gone and the young now grown up but that’s time. So a rather poignant song.

As ever I do like your voice and the tunes you write, so another one for the CD ;-). Thanks for posting and sharing

  • @noonoobaggins Well it was written in Weymouth when I had lost just about everything, but it made me realise all of us were going to lose everything one day!

Of course there's a silver lining and one of the local pubs claimed me as their 'good value entertainment', I had three small parts in Showboat and before I knew it I had bought a yacht and set sail for Falmouth. And that summer of '96 was lovely and hot.

  • @postcardsoflife A yacht!, Good for you, your right we are here for such a short time, we really need to make the most of it, which I why cannot understand the maddness of the huge morgages, working all hours for a family some never get to see. Each to their own though. For me it's filling my life with experiences and memories so that your songs (and the like) evoke me to think of them :-)

    Peace be with you.
