Recorded by Charles Daniels summer 1995 with an 1817 Broadwood grand identical to that sent to Beethoven in Vienna. Last track on the disc 'The Romantic Muse' still available from Hyperion. The long phrase around 5:27 was really like that and is not the result of clever editing; Charles has big lungs! I can certify to that because I was there, playing the piano... The words are by Anne Hunter widow of the great surgeon John Hunter; she and Haydn loved each other but in this song one can feel the dead husband's continuing presence, both comforting and somewhat theatening.
Why the strange face

It's Haydn's death mask (plaster cast taken just after he died) - perhaps a spooky idea to have used it
