This is my Uo Poko board released in 1998 which is made by Cave, mostly known for their amazing shooters like ESP Galuda, Death Smiles, Dangun Feveron and DoDon Pachi. This game plays like Battle Balls but instead of balls dropping from the top like tetris, you have to shoot the balls in like pinball by pulling down a plunger. The ball will travel farther the longer you hold the plunger down.

The cool thing about this game is that during a 2 player game it is possible that if both player release at the same time the balls will bang into each other, kinda like a mutual Teabag if you will. Then you end up yelling at your partner that they messed up the shot and then it turns into a male domination thing where you say "I go first, then you, got it?" I really don't know how she puts up with me.

In this video is myself and my wife playing this game together. I wanted to make a 1 player video but this game is like crack to her so whenever I try she just grabs the controller and says "Let's Play", dammit.

We did a full playthrough so this is part 1 for now. If you want to see more just post a message and I'll post the rest.

I was also bored the other day being home injured and home from work so I decided to try and make an "Animated Logo" like everyone else, it came out ok I guess. You can only do so much in iMovieHD with no plugins.

  • Just started playing this recently and I'm hooked. VERY addictive game. I'd say this is equally as good as games like Magical Drop 3 and Puzzle Bobble. The 2 player co-op option is really fun and works well. I'd love to play the semi sequel to this, Mushihime Tama.

  • @merlin196 Ya it is a great game. I still have it in my collection and play it every so often. I've been trying to find the PCB for the sequel but it hasn't popped up lately. I'm guessing it's on Yahoo japan auctions though.

  • I love this game! I really don't know why. May be it's simplicity, graphics, music... It's addictive!

By the way, in Mame's Arcade History tab it says that there is a second part called "Himitsu no Hana Poko"... Anyone knows something about this?

I couldn't find any info, may be because it's in japanese...

Sorry for my english and thanks for the vid!

  • @G3DTrance Hmm, I tried translating that game name and it's something about Secret of the Flower Fish? something like that. Uo poko is roughly translated as "lots of fish".

But if there is a sequel to this game I'd love to play it. Was it an arcade release?

  • About fucking time

  • I was injured you bastard.

  • ...No thanks. Can I have DoDonPachi 3?

  • this game is pretty fun i found it as i was browsing the mame titles, thought id give it a try. The last stage is kind of cool with the alien ship at the bottom of the ocean.

  • I love the music of the second level at 8:08 !!!

  • I know this game was never released outside of Japan, but for some odd reason I get a feeling of nostalgia whenever I look at this video. Somehow it reminds me of one of those puzzle games on a Neo Geo machine.

  • @SupremeJudge Supposedly yes. In Mame, if you have the Arcade History's dat activated, when you go to the "history" tab, there is a part where they tell about the "series" of each game. In the Uo Poko's history tab says (copy/paste):

    - SERIES -

    1. Uo Poko - Lots of Fish (1998)

    2. Himitsu no Hana Poko

    ????

Thanks for your answer, and if you find anything, let me know. : )
