i pick them up by the tail, but if thier too big i have too pick them up from behind the shell with both hands.

I once rescued a Snapping Turtle crossing a road in Pennsylvania...boy, can they be uncooperative! They stand their ground and strike...instead of retreat. I had to pick the thing up from behind to finally move it to safety, but it kept striking at me blindly. Even though my hands were out of reach, I was still scared.
