Cherry Harvest

A glimpse at sweet cherry harvest in Oregon. Two pickers dump their buckets into a bin and sort out the leaves before continuing on to pick more. They are paid per bucket of cherries, and my role was recording each picker's number of buckets, making sure they are full and that the fruit is being picked properly. This was recorded on July 4th, 2007.

@5430jake our pickers are paid a bit more than that lol, maybe nearly 20 dollars a lug but then some of that has to go towards the picking contractor who finds the work for them

it is cherry season here in australia now and we are very busy with the cherry harvest but it looks like there is some rain coming on friday and saturday :/

here on our cherry orchard the pickers tip their buckets of cherries into lugs which hold around 20kg, theyre paid so much per lug they pick and in the season one of my jobs is to go around on the tractor and trailer and tip those lugs, carefully into the half bins on the back. and also to mark a hole on their picking tally ticket to mark how many lugs they pick for the day, you get the odd clown trying to rip you off saying they picked more than what was marked but you take no notice of them.
