Sick rat breathing

This guy has some sort of respiratory infection. He didn't suffer long.

That rat should have been taken straight to vets as soon as it started breathing like that!! Poor thing was suffering!! Actually it should never have got to that stage!!

My rat looked like this today. After just a few hours, & AT THE VET, she died. A necropsy showed she had tumors in the chest cavity that were pressing on her lungs but didn't show outside the normal body silhouette.

Don't listen to "it's pneumonia" or "you should have taken the rat to the vet earlier". These are inexperienced and insensitive comments.

My rat only displayed these symptoms for a few hours before dying. And she was NOT sick or in distress yesterday.

@Trisa72 My rat was like this 20 mins before he died, he was acticing most fine until then! No one was home and i cant drive so he passed...im very sad.

@Trisa72 it may have came from a feeder cage...its very sad how pet stores neglect these animals even if some must be used for feeding reptiles...they should at least give them some what of a good life, not pile 50 of them up in a 20 gallon tank with little or no food and water.... very sad indeed...

@phoenixhasrisen: I had a rat that did the exact same thing. Took him to my vet. He did have pneumonia, the vet also did an x-ray.... If you never had pneumonia with a rat, I guess you are the inexperienced person.

Pneumionia is more common than a bunch of lung tomors. It's really sad your rat had to die like that, and ofcourse, you couldn't have known. Some things just happen all of a sudden... (And rats are great at hiding pain/distress)

This almost made me cry.

I had a rat named Cookie for about 3 years. She had a bite in her ear almost EXACTLY like the one this rat has on his. She suffered the same respiratory infection as the one in this vid too and seeing this is like reliving the time when Cookie became ill

My mom (whom I will never forgive for this) absolutely refused to allow money to be spent on Cookie at the vet. Even just to end her suffering. And why? "Because a $7 rat isn't worth it." NEVER repeat my moms mistake!

@Harukasaful Mice might be different, but in this case if the medicines didn't have any effect on the rats then there is no getting better. Please take your mouse to the vet.

It was hard watching this. My poor Po-Po Gigo also died from this disease. After multiple medications, many weeks, & many trips to the vet the vet finally just said we have to make him comfortable. I spent a lot of money & a lot of time on my baby & it was never good enough. I miss him so much.
