whats the difference between northern blotting and southern blotting?
-
Northen blot = used with** dna for** rna sorry for the mistake forgot to re-read.
-
northen blot = used for dna that is being transcribed via RNA so therefore u see which specific strand is being multiplied a example would be fragile x syndrome
southern blot = dna based strictly to see the length and its commonly used with VNTR & RFLP... to see how much of a one specific strand you have... & its size... which restriction fragment is associated with what gene ... like ATTAC [palindrome restriction fragment which u can get via restriction endonucleases] is associated on what gene

Truee I mean dubble-stranded, sowry (A)

Since RNA isn't double-stranded I guess you mean

@tdnobita In Southern Blotting you use DNA and in Northern Blotting you use RNA :] & in Southern Blotting you must first produce single-strand DNA and in Northern Blotting this is not necessary, since RNA isn't single-stranded :]

What is the difference between this method and Southern Blotting?
