You can drink this pond water! I have just had the water in this pool tested by the labs at South Coast Water. It meets (and exceeds) UK drinking water standards.

I couldn't find a more eco alternative to a pond liner other than puddling clay. As I didn't have good enough clay on site - and I did try, I decided to go for a liner.

Thank you martinz1 -well once I saw one of these pools I had to start digging one for myself. And once I made a big muddy hole there was no alternative but to finish.

Secrets0stolen - thank you for your enthusiastic response. I introduced a non- native (to UK) Elodea Crispa, a curly pond weed as an oxygenating plant. That grows quickly and takes nutrients out of the water - depriving algae. But natives would be better for the local ecology.

Awesome! Does it breed mosquitoes? Which plants clean the water well? Are there more eco materials that can be used for the base (such as earthen plaster, recycled materials)?
