WARNING SOME IMAGES SHOW BITE INJURIES! A 9-year-old Corpus Christi boy is recovering at Driscoll Children's Hospital after being viciously attacked by a pit bull. It happened in the 2200 block of Talisman near Horne and Crosstown around 7 Thursday night.
Young Jeremy Arjuña went into surgery Friday afternoon. His mom, Valerie Acuña, calls him a trooper.
According to Corpus Christi Police, the female gray pit bull tied to a small tree managed to get free. The dog, a female gray pit bull, went after Jeremy and yanked him off his bike. The attack left Jeremy with an arm broken in two places.
"I was screaming for help," said Jeremy. He told us he was scared when the dog broke free from the rope.
Jeremy's mother tearfully told us from Jeremy's hospital room that her son's attack could have been prevented. She doesn't understand why a pit bull was left in a front yard, tied to a small tree, with a thin rope. There's no fence in the front yard.
We tried to speak to the pit bull owner. No one came to the door. The dog is now quarantined. It'll likely be declared a dangerous dog, and could later be euthanized that is unless the owner of the dog, who is said to be a city employee, appeals a judge's decision.
