The Abduction from the Seraglio is the first of Mozart's five operatic masterpieces. It was written at a level of sophistication and depth unfathomable for German songspiels of the time.

  • @quenuca

    LOL...nice!

  • @lucyliesinashes I wouldnt say Turks were a 'target' in Mozart's work, he was actually very kind in his treatment of the Ottomans, making the Pasha out to be a generous noble.

Also, the kidnapping of Europeans to be taken as slaves in Islamic lands had only recently ceased to be common at the end of the 18th century. Mozart's libretto wasnt some fantastic yarn forcing Turks into a boogeyman role, it was realistic for its time.

  • Das Deutsch ist ziemlich undeutlich, aber dennoch hört es sich gut an.

  • one of the best passages in operatic history. there is so much melody and attention to detail. every note and every accompanying voice is flawless.

  • @khl1975

    it certainly looked like him.

  • @kittenic44 I don't think Mozart cared enough to check. Austria wasn't on the most pleasant terms with Turkey, so they were a pretty easy target, inaccuracies and all.

  • was it Zubin Metha i did see as conductor at this opera?

  • Just listen to the awesome that is Mozart

  • Certified Intergalactic!
