@richk1500 The original fixed industrial engine designed by Rudolph Diesel ran on coal dust slurry. The second fuel was natural gas drip condensate. Where the "designed to run on peanut oil" myth came from was when Diesel presented it at an exhibition in Paris, when he spoke to some mining engineers from USA. He said the engine COULD run on peanut oil, knowing how popular GW Carver was at the time. But as Europe is too cold for growing peanuts importing all the intended fuel wasn't feasible.

The "diesel" engine was designed to run on peanut oil first before "oil based diesel fuel" was around.
